Esiquio Casillas, MD, MPH
Dr. Esiquio Casillas is Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the Program for All Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) and Senior Services at AltaMed Health Services. Dr. Casillas was previously Associate Medical Director at Regal Medical Group where he directs programming for high risk patient populations. He also worked with Care Level Management as a home visiting physician for elderly patients. Dr. Casillas completed a Health Policy Fellowship at White Memorial Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he helped develop innovative strategies to address health policy issues affecting underserved communities. He organized and coordinated the first annual Practice Management in Primary Care Conference for physicians and residents in California. In addition, he helped redesign ambulatory health care delivery models that resulted in improved health care quality performance measures in the Integrated Healthcare Association Pay for Performance Initiative in California. He also served as a staff physician at Family Care Specialists Medical Group in Los Angeles and as a teaching attending at White Memorial Medical Center Family Practice Residency Program. Dr. Casillas also held positions at East Los Angeles Men’s Health Center, Mission & Community Hospital Emergency Room/Urgent Care, and Stacy Surgical Center for Occupational Medicine. Dr. Casillas has taught school-aged children, and while at Harvard Medical School, he assumed leadership roles in student organizations dedicated to improving health care access to underserved minority groups, and to serving the needs of the Latino community. For his efforts, he was recognized with a Harvard Medical School Community Service Award, as well as the LeGrand Newman Scholarship, and the National Association of Medical Minority Educators at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Casillas is interested in addressing the growing problem of health care disparities in the U.S., as well as the shortcomings of the current health care delivery system.
Dr. Casillas received his medical degree in 2001 from Harvard Medical School, and completed his residency in Family Practice in 2004 at White Memorial Medical Center, where he also served as Chief Resident. He received an M.P.H. from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2006 as a CES Scholar.
The California Endowment Scholars in Health Policy at Harvard University was a sister program to the Commonwealth Fund Fellowship. Beginning in 2002 and discontinued in 2011, it was a one-year, full-time, academic degree-granting program designed to create health professional leaders in the public, nonprofit, and academic sectors.
