Previously, he was Chief Medical Officer of Memorial Hermann Health Plan. Dr. Valdez also served as medical director for the Costco Wholesale Dedicated Unit. In this role, he supported nurse-delivered medical management services including utilization management, disease management, case management, and the Live Healthy Coachesteam. Prior to that, Dr. Valadez served as the Assistant Commissioner for Prevention and Preparedness Services at the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) where he was responsible for public health laboratory services, infectious and chronic disease prevention and control programs, disaster preparedness and response, environmental epidemiology and disease registries. In the past, he has also served as the medical director/health authority for the Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department (ATCHHSD); as the medical director for the Martha Eliot Health Center in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts; and as a primary care provider.
Dr. Adolfo Valadez is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with degrees in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.) and Biology (B.A.). He attended the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and graduated with honors. Dr. Valadez completed his residency in internal medicine at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts and served as an instructor in clinical medicine at the Harvard Medical School. Later, Dr. Valadez completed the Commonwealth Fund/Harvard University Fellowship in Minority Health Policy and received a Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health. He is board certified in internal medicine.
Dr. Valadez has also served as a consultant to the Texas Medical Association’s Public Health Committee and served as a former member of the national American Heart Association’s Women and Minority Leadership Committee. Recently, Dr. Valadez has participated on the Institute of Medicine’s Evidence Framework for Obesity Prevention Decision Making Committee and he is a board member of the National Hispanic Medical Association.
