Anita Moncrease, MD, MPH

President of Moncrease & Associates, LLC; Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Wayne State University School of Medicine (WSUSOM), Detroit, MI, and former Medical Director, Adolescent Health, Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion.


 

Dr. Moncrease is president of Moncrease & Associates, LLC and was recently awarded a United States Patent for her Rapid Drug Dispensing System.  She was a Consultant on the development of the Detroit Wayne County Health Authority and the Medical Director of Adolescent Health for the Detroit Department of Health and Wellness Promotion. Prior to this, she served at Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) as Senior Medical Advisor in the Bureau of HIV/AIDS, and as Director of the Division of Health Professions Diversity, where she oversaw the Health Careers Opportunity Program, the Centers of Excellence Program, and the Minority Faculty Development Program. These programs award grants to colleges and community entities that increase opportunities for disadvantaged and underrepresented minority students to pursue careers in health professions. Prior to joining HRSA, Dr. Moncrease was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at WSUSOM, and in the Department of Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. Her research interests are health policy, cancer screening, hypertension and hypercholesterolemnia in African Americans.

Dr. Moncrease received her medical degree from WSUSOM in 1984, and completed a residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at Wayne State University Affiliated Hospitals in 1988. She completed a HRSA/Harvard Health Policy Internship in 2000.

The experience I found most rewarding while doing the fellowship was the networking opportunity. To be able to sit and talk with national experts in the field of minority health on a one-on-one setting was wonderful.
